I came back home this evening to be pleasantly surprised by Brat, he was studying his Bengali textbook. Now Brat usually never studies Bengali on his own, I have to keep nagging.
Me: Are you really studying Bengali or do I need an eye checkup
Brat: You need a total checkup MA. Btw am not studying, am reading. MA I read this story ‘Choto lok’ by Bonophool (Bengali author), how beautifully the author has conveyed that being poor doesn’t mean that one shouldn’t have self respect, and we aren’t always helping when we are trying to be helpful, we need to analyse if the help is really required. MA a lot many times poor are more open minded and big hearted while rich are mean minded and shallow hearted. I also read ‘Vidushak’ by Rabindranath Tagore, it was written after the Jallianwala bagh incident, I realised how with very few words you can convey such profound message.
Me: tears of joy
For a change am so touched that Brat can understand such sensitive points in literature.
For a change am a happy mother off to sleep.
For a change there was no googly thrown by Brat.
For a change am proud that Brat is into reading and not into gaming.
And baba would have been so proud today seeing his grandson appreciate Bengali literature the way he did. Sometimes my stories too have happy endings.
